COOPERATIVE COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT PLAN
Western Suffolk BOCES School Library System
2008
Goal
To support the collections of our member school libraries by acquiring books and materials that can be shared throughout the Western Suffolk BOCES School Library System.
Objectives
- Identify collection strengths and weaknesses in member libraries.
- Develop shared collections that address weaknesses in member libraries.
- Determine holding libraries for shared collections.
- Share resources among member libraries, utilizing the SLS Director
for deliveries (using Interlibrary Loan model).
Governance
The Cooperative Collection Development Committee, consisting of liaisons and the director of the school library system, will administer the program. Its tasks will be to:
- Survey member libraries to determine their holdings.
- Identify holding libraries.
- Work in cooperation with the Interlibrary Loan Committee to promote resource sharing by setting up a convenient delivery method.
- Establish lending guidelines for materials.
Member Responsibilities
Members of the Western Suffolk BOCES School Library System who participate in this Cooperative Collection Development plan:
- Purchase materials to support the curriculum and the New York State Learning Standards.
- Complete surveys upon request.
- Abide by lending guidelines while participating in interlibrary loan.
- Be willing to become a holding library for materials, if necessary.
Evaluation
Annually, the Cooperative Collection Development Committee will review and evaluate this plan. The following criteria will be used:
- Information culled from survey responses.
- Lists of materials purchased to support the curriculum and New York State Learning Standards.
- Quantity and type of shared holdings of the system and member libraries.
- Interlibrary loan statistics.
